New Horizons for Europa Birmingham
Europa Birmingham have now completed the move to new purpose built premises and are already seeing tremendous growth in business.
The new terminal comprises of 155,000 sq. ft., combining logistics and transit operations. The area is covered by 15,000 pallet locations and 25,000 sq. ft., of bulk storage with RF technology. Transit operations provides 50,000 sq. ft. wth 40 dock leveller loading doors and 2 level access doors.
Europa Birmingham started its life from a 4,500 sq. ft. warehouse in 1985. After five years, moved to a purpose built terminal in 1990 from where it expanded the facility twice in 21 years. Having reached saturation levels in 2009 it was decided that it was time to move again. In October 2010, Europa concluded its discussions with ProLogis for the development of a new purpose built facility.
In January of this year, construction started on the new site and after a miraculous 24 week build, the terminal was completed on schedule and became fully operational on Monday 1st August 2011. Built to a high specification and designed to achieve an EPC 'A' rating (Energy Performance Certificate) and BREEAM 'Excellent' rating (Building Regulation Establishment Environmental Assessment Method). It is also carbon neutral in construction.
The terminal brings together a number of the Company's operating divisions: European Express Services, Seafreight Services, National Distribution Services, Exhibition and Project Forwarding Services and Logistics Services all benefiting from the additional capacity.
It is the support, hard work and dedication over the years from all the staff at Europa Birmingham that have made this project possible.
