Software Developer

We’re a privately-owned firm – with 12 sites – offering an unrivalled road freight service to the whole of Europe, plus specialist warehouse, air and sea and showfreight services.

Celebrating our 50th anniversary we at Europa Worldwide Group have a team of 600 people and are represented in six continents, operating in over 120 countries and with three Warehouse sites in the UK.

Unique Opportunity

Europa is investing heavily in brand new bespoke IT solutions to continually improve efficiencies and communication. This has included the creation of a new in-house development team which we are now looking to expand. The new applications have and will be designed and developed “from the ground up” enabling a long term, future proof and fit for purpose solution. This is a great opportunity to be involved in a long term and critical project.

What we’re looking for

We recognise the value that IT can bring to a company, especially within our sector. We have many ideas that we want to realise within our applications and, of course, we want them as quickly as possible! We want to be creative, innovative and flexible; the development practices of the team will essentially be agile and pragmatic. We’re looking for like-minded people who want to both learn and help develop practices that make us become more and more successful.

What you should have

Education

Our ideal candidate will have a relevant degree (ideally in a computing or science related degree), or equivalent industry experience.

Experience of working in an in-house development team will be seen as beneficial.

Technical Skills

Our IT and investment strategy enables Europa to take advantage of the latest technologies. You will be designing & writing a WPF (MVVM C#) based desktop application in Visual Studio 2015 (framework 4.5 upwards) using WCF and Microsoft SQL Server 2014.

Our Developers must have solid experience of working with C# and MSSQL, with commercial experience of .net framework 3 or above. Additionally, commercial experience of WPF & WCF is highly desirable.

If you have experience of working with contract logistics systems this will be massively advantageous

Europa Culture & Environment

The development team is based at a newly refurbished office within the grounds of Osberton Hall, Nottinghamshire. The estate boasts beautiful views across its almost 50 acres of grounds consisting of lawns, parklands and lakes. The offices also house some members of the Board of Directors, including the Group IT Director. The estate can be easily accessed from the A1, approximately 1 mile away.

The development team will be supported by the Technical Architect and the Group IT Director with a combined 40 years experience. Additionally two Application Design Managers both with considerable freight/sector experience shall liaise between the development team and the business.

What type of person you should be?

Europa is investing heavily in IT in order to improve; deadlines will be tight but we must not let quality slip. The team need to have a clear understanding of how their actions affect quality and who have a wish to deliver Quality at Speed.

To help us grow this company and build great software we expect people to be pro-active – to spot areas where we can do better and to openly challenge unnecessary work, always suggesting the most efficient route to the right solution.

The successful applicant will be tolerant of the differences and variety that make life interesting and intolerant of unnecessary obstacles or friction.

We have an excellent team atmosphere in the development department and company as a whole. We are looking for people whose personality will both fit into, and enrich our team.
