Europa’s Women are Winning in Logistics

On International Women’s Day leading independent operator Europa Worldwide Group really is bucking the trend of female representation in the sector.

The representation of women within Europa

At the forefront of industry innovation Europa Worldwide Group is living its values as a true pioneer. Across its whole operation Europa now employs an impressive 40 per cent women. This is against recent industry figures from the Transport Exchange Group which reported that women are heavily underrepresented in the road transport and logistics industry, making up just 20 per cent of the transport sector’s workforce.

All parts of Europa now have over 20 per cent female representation. This is testament to Europa’s flexible and family focused approach which includes generous support for parents as well as its strong company values which underpins its whole approach to business.

The Europa Road division

Europa Road’s sales operations specifically have a very successful female team. Its Branch and Customer Service Managers, are responsible for the successful running of its teams, as well as managing customer requirements. Of its team of 370, 47 per cent of its Branch Managers and 55 per cent of its Customer Service Managers are female.

The Europa Air & Sea division

Europa Air & Sea, with UK and global sites in Hong Kong, China and the UAE has a 35 per cent female representation.

The Europa Warehouse division

Europa Warehouse, which comprises 3pl and bonded warehouse facilities in Dartford, Birmingham and Corby also has an impressive 43 per cent of women, across all roles from operations right through to senior management.   The Europa Warehouse team is led by Chief Operating Officer Dionne Redpath who comments; “All of our team across the business have been appointed because of their sheer talent and hard work.  At Europa we’re passionate about reaching a balanced gender split which therefore provides women with an equal opportunity to take up senior positions if they so wish.”

Europa’s internal competition

As part of its celebration of International Women’s Day, the firm which employs over 1400 people at 26 sites across the UK and internationally, has launched a competition to recognise the women in its team that ‘take bold steps to stretch our individual and cumulative potential’, which is one of our core Europa values).

Women within the workplace

ONS data released last year showed that the number of working women is now 2 million more than in 2010. With the number of women in high-skilled jobs rising by 38 per cent since 2010, and the proportion of women progressing into top management roles growing by almost 25 per cent over the last 12 years.

Chelsea Bartlett, Branch Manager at Europa Road in Cardiff commented:

“I have been fortunate to be part of the Europa Road team for nearly a year now and within this time alone they have enabled me to advance my career in the logistics sector. The company’s vision of nurturing employee growth and investing in its people has provided me with an environment that supports both the personal and professional development of me and my team.”
