Newcastle Business Celebrates a Year of Success

Local Newcastle logistics firm champions a record year of sales despite the continuous economic uncertainty surrounding the levelling up agenda in the Northeast.

Europa Road in Newcastle

Logistics firm Europa Road Newcastle based at Silverlink Business Park in Wallsend has celebrated a number of successes over the past 12 months since Branch Manager, Andrew Darroch, joined the business.

In the past year, the Newcastle branch has doubled its headcount, taking the team from 13 to 20, including the addition of account managers and roles in operations and customer services. The branch is also celebrating a substantial increase in sales since 2021, with revenue up 27 per cent.

The company has been based locally for 23 years and moved to its current home at Silverlink Business Park in February 2020, which is twice the size of its previous office in Monkton Business Park. However, in the past year, the branch has performed so successfully, the business has expanded into two separate teams. Andrew Darroch, heads up the sales team whilst Rebecca Humby manages the customer services team after being promoted from customer service supervisor, a role which originally sat under Andrew.

UK European road freight sales investment

Since 2022 Europa Worldwide Group has invested more than £3m increasing its UK European road freight sales network at its Europa Road division, which provides road freight services for import and export to and from Europe.

Europa’s record turnover

The global operator, which continues to set the pace in the market, recently reported a record turnover of £316m for the last 12 months. It also has ambitious plans for continued investment, despite the economic situation, and believes improving logistics capacity and capabilities for a growing number of local businesses will help them navigate a changing marketplace.

The impact of Brexit

Despite reports that Brexit has negatively impacted on UK trading levels, the latest statistics from Europa shows its ‘frictionless customs product’ Europa Flow is enabling customers in the North East to buck that downward trend.

Andrew Darroch, Branch Manager commented:

“I am so thrilled at the enormous headway we have made this last year in terms of both performance and growth. The teams have worked tirelessly, and they are a real credit to themselves and the business.

“The Europa team is keeping goods flowing smoothly with its DDP product which was designed to speed up consignments and reduce paperwork associated with post-Brexit exports, and this is exactly what it has done. Europa invested £5m in preparing for Brexit to make sure it could support its customers, and this is certainly paying off as customers across the North East use us to export their goods to Europe.”

Adrian Redmile, Branch Network and Sales Director at Europa Road commented:

“It is clear that having a fantastic local team in Newcastle means we are able to support the region’s growing supply chain needs with import and export – specifically on our pan-European daily services. The branch has gone from strength to strength since Andrew joined the team and I am looking forward to seeing the continued success that no doubt will come.”

The growth of Europa Road

The last few years have seen major investment and growth for Europa, and Europa Road specifically has gone from strength to strength. Volumes have continued to increase and since the launch of Europa Flow consignments have grown significantly.

Europa Flow

Europa has invested £5 million in its innovative market-leading product, Europa Flow, providing a frictionless flow of goods between the EU and the UK post-Brexit. The group employs over 1,300 people with 19 sales offices in the UK, and the Republic of Ireland, plus European teams in Belgium and the Netherlands and internationally in Hong Kong, China and the UAE. The global operator recently reported a record turnover of £316m for the last 12 months, as of August 2022, and remains on track with its ambitious investment programme.
